It is quite straight forward to get Thai driver license in Bangkok, in my case, converting my driving license from my country to Thai driver license. I would like to share my experience. It took less than 2 hours. But I would like to suggest you to get there very early and get in a queue. My queue was 26 and I got there at 5:30 in the morning. It is a very busy office so you must get there very early to get it done quickly.

You can also get your driver license by joining a DLT certified driving school and get it. https://safedrivedlt.com/driving-school/

  • Passport (orignal and copy) – you need to sign on the copy
  • Your original license from your home country (If your driving license is not in English, it must be translated officially and endorsed by your embassy)
  • Proof of Residence (Certificate of Residence from your embassy)
  • Medical Certificate (It must be less than 30 days. You can get it at any clinics or hospitals)

4 Tests to pass to get Thai Driver License

I had to pass these 4 basic tests to get Thai Driver License:

  1. Colour blind test – which red/yellow/green lights on the traffic light will be turned on and off randomly and you need to answer correctly.
  2. Reflex test – you need to press with your right foot on the accelerator until the green light goes upward and press the break before it reaches the red light (must be within 0.75 seconds)
  3. Depth perception test – you will face two white rods, the one on the right is lit and stationary while the one on the left is not. You have move the one on the left until it parallel with the right one.
  4. Wide angel perception test – you will be asked to face the machine and tell the color only using your peripheral vision without moving your eyes.

I did not need to take practical driving test because I was just converting my driver license from my home country to Thailand one. But if you are applying driving license for the first time, you must take a practical driving test.
